What is Pix by approximation?

Pix by approximation: what is it and how does it work?
With this feature, you can pay with Pix using NFC technology, in just a few taps on your cell phone. Have you heard of Pix by approximation? This is the newest feature of the Central Bank's instant payment system, which promises to increase users' convenience when paying for in-person purchases. Like all ways to pay with Pix, the solution was developed and authorized by the BC and, only then, incorporated into financial institutions so that customers can use it. And in this operating model, you can make the payment using a digital wallet. Below, learn what Pix by approximation is and how this payment method works.

What is Pix by approximation?
Pix by approximation is a type of Pix system that uses Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology to make payments. With it, you simply hold your cell phone close to a receiving device, such as a card machine, to make the transaction. This technology is already well-known for being used in contactless credit and debit cards.

What is the difference between NFC and contactless?
At Nubank, you can now make Pix by approximation in a simple way. Just tell the merchant that you will pay with Pix, open the Nu app and touch your cell phone to the machine. The entire process is completed in a few seconds, with the security you already know. You just need to make sure that your cell phone has NFC technology activated. With Nubank's Pix by approximation, you can pay with the balance in your Nu Account or with the limit on your credit card. And you can even pay in up to 12 installments. And all of this is done quickly: the payment is initiated automatically when you open the app and bring your cell phone close to the machine, making the experience simpler.
